Hello, I'm Laura Drawdy Mallernee, the one on the right in the picture above. The one on the left is my only child, Ellen Mallernee Barnes.
If you walked in my house, you would know right away that I love color! The sitting room is a sunny golden yellow, the tv room is turquoise with a black and white checkered floor, the master bedroom is eggplant purple, but the most colorful room of all is the kitchen with turquoise cabinets, bright coral walls, and a black tile counter top--1950s Fiestaware colors!
Like many people, I, too, have had a colorful life. The fabric of my life has been especially colored by my family of origin, our 12 moves as I was growing up, my two husbands, a few close friends, and many other factors.
Now retired from teaching high school English, my time is at last my own. I taught from 1972 until 2011. I had a love affair with teaching that lasted nearly 40 years, and I miss it terribly sometimes. I especially miss the students.
Writing, my daughter and granddaughters, nature, art, travel, and my dogs are my passions. They continue to color my life with heart and meaning, hope and inspiration.
At age 40, I began to white water kayak and still do to this day! So rivers and their metaphors speak to me. I want to live the rest of my life more fluently “like a river flows/Carried by the surprise/Of its own unfolding.” I want to become more fully myself by letting Spirit Divine live in and through me. By living mindfully and joyfully in the moment, my goal is to allow each day to unfold as perfectly as it is meant to.
I look forward to sharing my life with you! Thank you for reading about it!

I'm so excited that you have a blog! Can't wait to read it all! :) ~Rachael M.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Rachael! I'm excited, too!
ReplyDeleteI am so grateful to read about your life and experiences, because not only do they inspire and engender compassion, but deep understanding that we are kindred spirits. My heart just aches that you were treated this way by the very people who were supposed to nurture you and shore you up in case the world was unkind. Thank you for sharing your catharsis.
ReplyDeleteDo you watch Iyanla VanZant's show on OWN? or her special shows with Oprah? She has really made a difference in my own healing.
Sending you love and light. Eager to read more about you!!
Love,
Sonny (previously Sonya McDaniel Ingram, class of '86)
